Archiving Photos, Slides and Printed Memorabilia
We do a lot of archival photo and slide scanning. Our recommendation, and practice at Life Story Books, is to create a digital copy, do the photo restoration on the copy, and transfer it to CD. We recommend that you then store the original in some type of archival sleeve or envelope. We can provide archival storage envelopes, files and boxes for you. You may choose to have your restored photos turned into a beautiful coffee table heritage album.
Often our clients come in with boxes full of photos or boxes full of albums that need to be scanned so that they can be preserved and shared with other family members. When we do large jobs like these, we spend some initial time creating a a project filing system, so that any image can be quickly located. If a photo has a caption written on the page, we will scan the caption as part of the photo so that the specific caption isn't lost.
If the photo has information on the back, we will scan the back and create a separate but related file so that it's obvious the image has a back and a front. We think it's important to keep all identifying information about that photo in the persons hand that wrote the comments.
We use a high resolution scanner, especially for slides and negatives, so the smallest images can usually be digitised, corrected and turned into an image for archiving or printing.

We can remove age spots, re-colour, repair rips and creases, re-invent torn or missing pieces and even remove people and objects.
